Lagos Gospel Artiste, Three Crew Members Found Dead in Ajah

Tragedy has cast a long shadow over Nigeria’s gospel music community following the death of Matthew Ogundele, a gospel artiste, alongside three members of his crew, who were found lifeless inside a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, Lagos State.

The victims, identified as Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and Matthew Awosanya, were reportedly part of a small team that had gathered at the studio for a music-related engagement. What was meant to be a routine creative session ended in a chilling discovery that has left families, colleagues, and fans in shock.

According to preliminary accounts, the group had remained overnight in the studio after a late-night programme. Concern was raised the following morning when the studio was found locked from the inside and repeated attempts to reach those inside went unanswered. Upon gaining access, their bodies were discovered.

Law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene confirmed the deaths and evacuated the bodies to a government medical facility, where they were formally pronounced dead. The remains have since been deposited at a morgue pending further examination.

While the exact cause of death has not yet been established, police authorities say there were no immediate signs of physical violence, adding that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough forensic and technical investigation.

The incident has sparked an outpouring of grief across social media, particularly within faith-based and creative communities, where Ogundele was known for his devotion to gospel music and ministry. Many have called for restraint against speculation while urging authorities to ensure a transparent investigation.

As questions linger and the silence from the studio grows heavier, the tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of life’s fragility—and the urgent need for clarity, accountability, and closure for those left behind.
