The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 83 senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force in a move aimed at strengthening leadership capacity within the force.
At the apex of the promotion exercise, 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) were elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), placing them among the highest-ranking officers responsible for strategic oversight and command within the police hierarchy.
In the same exercise, 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP). The promotion positions them for leadership roles in state commands and other critical operational formations across the country.
The commission also approved the elevation of 18 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), expanding the pool of senior officers tasked with operational leadership and administrative coordination.
Further down the command structure, 35 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
Altogether, the promotions cut across four senior ranks within the force and are expected to reinforce operational efficiency, leadership development, and institutional continuity within the Nigeria Police Force.
The PSC reiterated that the promotion exercise forms part of its statutory responsibility to oversee appointments, promotions, and disciplinary control of officers in the police force, ensuring that merit, experience, and service record remain central to career advancement.
The newly promoted officers are expected to assume greater responsibilities in advancing policing reforms, strengthening internal security, and improving service delivery across the country.
