Today, April 22, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved a series of strategic appointments and tenure renewals across major institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, and the National Library of Nigeria.
Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu, a retired Professor of Educational Administration from Obafemi Awolowo University, was appointed Chairman of NECO’s Governing Board. Her extensive experience includes serving as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State (2013-2014), Chairman of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) (2011-2014), and NBTE Chairman (2018-2021). The current NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, will continue in his role to ensure operational continuity.
Additional appointments include Prof. Babatunde Salako as NBTE Chairman, a renowned researcher and former Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (2016-2024), with Prof. Idris M. Bugaje reappointed as Executive Secretary for a second five-year term. Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa, holding a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and previously Deputy Rector at Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, was named Rector of Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam for a single five-year term.
Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi’s tenure as Director/Chief Executive of the National Library of Nigeria was renewed for a final five-year term, recognizing her reforms such as the National Repository of Nigeria and progress on the Abuja headquarters project.
These moves aim to bolster governance, research, technical education, and institutional reforms in Nigeria’s education landscape.
