Burna Boy, VeryDarkMan Visit Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial CentrePopular Nigerian music star, Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy, alongside social commentator and activist Vincent Otse, popularly called VeryDarkMan, has paid a visit to the Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Lagos.According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Lagos State Command, Osho Onimisi Joseph, the visit was aimed at obtaining first-hand information on the legal and administrative procedures involved in the release of inmates eligible for discharge through the payment of fines.
The Officer-in-Charge of the facility, Sanni Richard, who received the delegation, explained the processes governing fine payments, eligibility criteria, and the legal safeguards in place to ensure transparency and strict compliance with court orders.
The statement emphasized that the payment of fines for eligible inmates is carried out strictly in line with court judgments and established correctional regulations, noting that no inmate is released without due process and proper authorization.
The Nigerian Correctional Service further assured the public that inmates across custodial centres are kept in safe, secure, and humane conditions, in accordance with the Nigerian Correctional Service Act and internationally accepted best practices.
The Service also commended lawful and well-intentioned initiatives that support access to justice, custodial decongestion, and the humane treatment of inmates, while reaffirming its commitment to the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders into society.
