NAFDAC Warns Nigerians Against Fake Kiss Condoms in Markets

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert warning Nigerians against the circulation of counterfeit Kiss condoms in markets across the country, citing serious public health concerns.

In the alert, the agency disclosed that fake versions of the popular condom brand have been detected in circulation, posing significant risks to consumers. According to NAFDAC, the use of counterfeit condoms undermines their protective purpose and exposes users to unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.

NAFDAC cautioned that counterfeit condoms often fail to meet required safety and quality standards, as they are produced without regulatory oversight. Such products may have defects including poor elasticity, weak material, or compromised packaging, all of which reduce effectiveness.

The agency advised members of the public to remain vigilant when purchasing condoms and to pay close attention to product details. Consumers are encouraged to check for proper NAFDAC registration numbers, intact and well-sealed packaging, clear expiry dates, and consistent branding. Any product with suspicious labeling, spelling errors, faded prints, or unusually low prices should be avoided.

NAFDAC also urged distributors, pharmacists, and retailers to source condoms only from approved and licensed suppliers, warning that the sale of counterfeit regulated products is a violation of Nigerian law and will attract sanctions.Members of the public were encouraged to report suspected fake or substandard products through NAFDAC’s official reporting channels to enable swift regulatory action.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health through continuous surveillance, enforcement, and public awareness, while calling on Nigerians to cooperate by making informed purchasing decisions and avoiding unverified products in the market.
