Nigeria, South Korea Partner to Build Africa’s First EV Manufacturing Plant

Nigeria has entered into a landmark agreement with South Korea’s AEDC to establish Africa’s first electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant, marking a major step in the country’s push toward clean energy and industrial growth.

The project aligns with Nigeria’s broader energy transition and automotive development strategies, and will also focus on building visible EV infrastructure to support widespread adoption. Complementary efforts are already underway, including financing schemes to make electric vehicles more accessible and state-led initiatives such as the introduction of electric buses in Lagos.

When fully operational, the manufacturing facility is expected to produce up to 300,000 electric vehicles annually and create about 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, boosting local capacity, technology transfer, and employment in the automotive and energy sectors.
