NISO Reports Improvements in Power Grid Stability

Nigeria’s electricity grid recorded notable improvements in stability in 2025, according to a new report by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), signaling gradual progress in the management of the nation’s power infrastructure.

The report highlights a reduction in grid disturbances over the review period, a development NISO attributes to strengthened operational control, improved system monitoring, and closer coordination among key stakeholders across the power value chain. These gains, while incremental, point to a more disciplined approach to grid management compared to previous years marked by frequent system collapses.

Industry observers note that better communication between generation companies, transmission operators, and distribution companies has played a critical role in stabilizing the grid. Enhanced compliance with dispatch instructions and more responsive system interventions have also helped minimize disruptions.

NISO emphasized that while the improvements are encouraging, sustaining grid stability will require continued investment in infrastructure, strict adherence to operational standards, and ongoing collaboration among sector players. The operator also underscored the importance of capacity building and real-time data sharing to further strengthen system resilience.

For consumers and businesses, improved grid stability holds the promise of fewer outages and a more predictable power supply—an essential factor for economic productivity and investor confidence. As reforms continue across the electricity sector, stakeholders will be watching closely to see whether these early gains can be consolidated into long-term reliability for Africa’s largest power market.
