Report Any Misconduct Involving Soldiers, Brigade Commander Urges Journalists

A Brigade Commander of the Nigerian Army has called on journalists and members of the public to promptly report any case of misconduct involving soldiers, stressing that accountability and professionalism remain central to the Army’s core values.

The senior officer made the appeal during an engagement with media practitioners, emphasising that constructive feedback from the press and the public plays a critical role in strengthening discipline within the ranks.

According to him, the Nigerian Army maintains zero tolerance for indiscipline, human rights violations, or any behaviour that undermines public trust. He urged journalists not to hesitate in reporting verified cases of wrongdoing, assuring that credible complaints would be thoroughly investigated and appropriate sanctions applied where necessary.

“The Nigerian Army is a professional institution guided by clear rules of engagement and ethical standards. Any personnel found wanting will face the full weight of military law,” he stated.

The Brigade Commander underscored the importance of collaboration between the military and the media, noting that responsible journalism helps to promote transparency while also safeguarding national security interests.

He further encouraged members of the public to channel complaints through established military reporting mechanisms, including brigade headquarters and other official communication platforms, rather than resorting to unverified social media claims.

Security analysts say such calls for openness reflect ongoing efforts within the Army to reinforce discipline and enhance civil-military relations across the country.
The appeal comes amid broader conversations about professionalism in Nigeria’s security architecture, with stakeholders increasingly advocating stronger oversight and improved communication between security agencies and civilian populations.

Observers note that sustained engagement between the media and the military could foster greater mutual understanding, reduce misinformation, and ultimately strengthen public confidence in the armed forces.
