Rivers Chief Judge Declines Request to Set Up Panel to Probe Governor Fubara

Rivers State Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, has declined a request from the Rivers State House of Assembly to constitute a panel to investigate Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The request, formally submitted by the House, sought the judiciary’s intervention to establish a probe panel into alleged matters concerning the governor. In response, Justice Amadi refused to constitute such a panel, citing legal boundaries and the need to uphold the independence of the judiciary.

The development adds a new layer to ongoing political tensions in the state, as lawmakers had indicated their intention to hold Governor Fubara accountable over issues they described as “critical to governance and public interest.”

Observers note that the Chief Judge’s refusal underscores the separation of powers, highlighting the delicate balance between legislative oversight and judicial authority in Rivers State.

Efforts to obtain comment from the House of Assembly leadership were ongoing at the time of publication.
