Senate Urges Telecoms to Boost Network in Attack-Prone Benue Communities

The Senate has urged telecommunications companies to extend communication infrastructure to vulnerable communities in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State following recurring attacks in the area.
The call was made as lawmakers expressed concern over the plight of residents who often find themselves unable to reach security agencies during emergencies due to poor network coverage.

According to the Senate, the installation of telecommunications masts in the affected communities would significantly improve communication, enabling residents to make distress calls and promptly alert security authorities whenever attacks occur.

Lawmakers noted that the absence of reliable network signals in many rural settlements has continued to hamper swift response during security incidents, leaving residents exposed and isolated in times of crisis.

The Senate therefore urged telecom operators to prioritise the installation of communication masts across the vulnerable parts of Kwande LGA, stressing that improved connectivity would not only enhance emergency response but also contribute to the overall safety and security of the communities.

The appeal comes amid growing concerns over the frequency of attacks in parts of Benue State, with residents and stakeholders repeatedly calling for stronger security measures and better infrastructure to protect lives and property.
