The United States military has announced an expansion of intelligence sharing and equipment support for Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s fight against Islamic State-linked militants.
An Africa Command (AFRICOM) commander disclosed this while speaking on ongoing security cooperation between both countries, noting that the enhanced support is aimed at improving Nigeria’s operational capacity and intelligence-driven responses to terrorism.
According to the US military, the move reflects Washington’s commitment to working closely with Nigerian security forces to counter violent extremism, particularly in regions affected by insurgency and transnational terrorist threats.
The increased assistance is expected to bolster surveillance, intelligence gathering, and logistical effectiveness, while deepening collaboration between both militaries in addressing shared security challenges.
Nigeria has continued to engage international partners as it intensifies efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore stability in conflict-affected areas of the country.
