Tinubu Names Young OAU Professor Segun Aina as Next JAMB Registrar

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Prof. Segun Aina of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, as the next Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), setting up a leadership transition at the nation’s tertiary admissions agency.

Aina, a professor of computer engineering, is expected to succeed Prof. Ishaq Oloyede when the latter’s second tenure ends on July 31, 2026.

The appointment places one of the country’s younger professors in charge of a critical federal institution that oversees the conduct of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and broader admissions processes into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Aina’s emergence has drawn attention not only because of his academic profile, but also because of his relatively young age and background in digital systems and engineering, fields that align closely with the technology-driven demands of modern examination administration.

Oloyede, who has led JAMB through two terms, is widely credited with deep reforms in the agency, especially in the areas of technology adoption, transparency, and examination integrity. Aina will be stepping into a role that carries both institutional weight and public scrutiny.

The appointment signals continuity at JAMB, with the incoming registrar expected to build on the operational reforms and digital systems already entrenched under Oloyede’s leadership.
